How to Choose the Best PG Near DDU College, Dwarka

Finding a place to live in your first week of college is stressful. You are usually doing it in a hurry, often with a parent who has taken a day off work, and almost always with three or four options that all look roughly the same in photographs. This guide is meant to slow that decision down slightly and give you a checklist you can actually carry with you.

Start with the walk, not the room

The single thing that will affect your daily life most is not the wardrobe or the WiFi speed. It is how far you have to walk at 8:30 in the morning.

Anything you can reach on foot from the DDU College gate in under five minutes changes the shape of your day. You can go back between lectures. You can eat a proper lunch instead of a samosa. You can leave your laptop charging and collect it later. Once a PG is a fifteen-minute walk or an auto ride away, all of that quietly disappears, and you end up spending money on transport you had not budgeted for.

Before you look at a single room, open a map and measure the actual walking distance to the college gate. Then walk it once, at roughly the time you would be walking it every day.

What to inspect in the room

Photographs are taken with wide lenses in good light. Rooms are not. When you visit, look at these specifically:

• The mattress. Sit on it. Press it. It is the thing you will spend a third of your time on, and it is the thing most often quietly old.
• Plug points. Count them, and check they are near the bed and the study table. One socket behind a wardrobe is a problem you will feel every single night.
• The study table. Is there one? Can you actually sit at it with a laptop and a notebook open at the same time? A "study table" that is really a bedside shelf is not a study table.
• Storage. Look for a wardrobe you can lock, and enough of it for a full year of clothes and books, not a term.
• The window. Which way does it face, and does it open? A room that gets no air in April in Delhi is a room you will not want to be in.

Ask about the things nobody advertises

Every PG will tell you it has WiFi, meals and security. The useful questions are more specific:

• Who cooks, and where? Ask to see the kitchen. Food cooked on site by someone the owner employs is a different proposition from food bought in from a contractor.
• What is actually included in the rent? Get this in writing. Electricity, especially in summer, is where surprise bills come from. Ask whether AC is metered separately.
• What is the notice period, and what happens to the deposit? Ask precisely how and when a deposit is returned. A vague answer here is the reddest of red flags.
• Who is on site at night? Not "is there security" — who, specifically, is present, and what happens if something goes wrong at 2 AM.
• Can I talk to someone who already lives here? A confident owner will say yes immediately.

The red flags

Walk away, politely but firmly, if:

• You are not allowed to see the actual room you would be living in, only "a room like it".
• The rent is dramatically below everything else in the area. Something is being left out, and you will find out what in month two.
• You are asked for a large cash deposit with no receipt and no written agreement.
• The owner is evasive about the notice period or the refund process.
• Nobody can tell you who to call in an emergency.

Bring your parents into the visit, not just the decision

This is worth saying plainly, because a lot of students skip it. Parents ask the awkward questions — about locks, about timings, about who is responsible if something happens — and those questions are genuinely useful. A PG that answers them well is a PG that has thought about them. A PG that gets defensive has not.

Take a day if you can

The pressure to decide immediately is usually manufactured. Rooms near DDU do fill up around admission season, and that is real — but a good place will still be a good place tomorrow morning, and a bad one will look worse by then. If you can see three places and sleep on it, do.
